How to make a Minecraft Origins server
An Origins server is a Minecraft server where each player chooses a species before they start, and that species changes how they play: an Avian falls slowly but bruises easily, a Merling breathes underwater but dries out on land. On JetRift you make one by choosing Origins, naming it, and sending your friends the address. It takes about ninety seconds, and nobody needs to install a mod because it all runs on the server. It runs Minecraft 26.2 on Java Edition.
What an Origin actually changes
Every origin is a trade. Something you can do that nobody else can, paid for with something everybody else keeps. That is the whole design, because a power with no price is simply the best way to play, and by the second evening it would be the only origin anybody picks.
Nothing is added to the world. No new blocks, no new mobs, no new recipes. The only thing that changes is the rules about the person playing, which is why it needs no mods and no resource pack.
- Avian: you fall slowly and land safely, but you are frailer and always hungry
- Merling: you breathe and swim in water, and dry out under an open sky
- Blazeborn: fire and lava cannot touch you, but water burns
- Feline: night eyes, quick feet, a safe landing, and eight hearts
- Human: no powers and no price, for anybody who wants the ordinary game
Choosing an origin
- Create an Origins world and send your friends the address.
- On joining, everybody is shown the five origins and what each one trades.
- Choose with /origin avian, or whichever you want.
- You choose once. An operator can reset somebody who wants to start again.
Why you only choose once
A choice you can take back at any time is not a choice, it is a menu. The interesting part of the mode is the argument about which trade is worth it, and that argument only exists if the answer sticks.
It survives restarts, so a week spent as a Merling stays a week spent as a Merling.
What it costs
Nothing while JetRift is in early access. No credit card, three worlds per account, and a hundred and fifty hours a month across all of them. The world sleeps when nobody is on it and wakes up when somebody joins.
Make one now. Free, no card, and about ninety seconds from here to an address you can send your friends.
Start a worldCommon questions
Does anybody need to install a mod?
No. Everything runs on the server, so everybody joins with ordinary Minecraft Java Edition and needs nothing but the address. That is the main difference from the original Origins mod, which every player had to install.
Can I change my origin later?
Not by yourself. An operator can reset somebody, but the choice is meant to stick, because a choice you can undo at will stops being a choice.
Is one origin better than the others?
Each one gives something and takes something, and which trade is best depends on what you are doing. Human is deliberately unchanged for anybody who would rather play the ordinary game alongside everyone else.
Does it work with the rest of survival?
Yes. It is ordinary survival with different rules about the players, so villages, the Nether, redstone and everything else behave exactly as they always do.
