How to make a Skyblock server

Skyblock starts every player on a small floating island with almost nothing and asks them to build the rest of the world from it. On JetRift you get one by choosing Skyblock and naming it. The void world, island generation and island protection are already set up, so there is nothing to install and nothing to configure. It runs Minecraft 26.2 on Java Edition.

What Skyblock is

You start on a few blocks floating in an empty sky with a tree and a chest. Everything after that comes from what you can make out of what you have, which is why the first hour is mostly about not wasting your lava.

It is the oldest custom Minecraft mode there is, and it survives because the constraint is the game.

How to make one

  1. Sign in with Google.
  2. Choose Skyblock and name the world.
  3. Add your friends’ Minecraft usernames.
  4. Send them the address. They can join your island or take one of their own.

Islands, friends and protection

Every island sits on its own patch of the grid with space between it and the next one, so nobody builds into anybody else.

You decide who is a member of your island and what visitors are allowed to do there. Members build with you; visitors can be let in to look without being able to break anything.

What it costs

Nothing. Three worlds, and a hundred hours a month of server time shared across them.

The world sleeps ten minutes after everybody leaves and wakes when somebody connects, so an island nobody is standing on is not spending your hours.

Make one now. Free, no card, and about ninety seconds from here to an address you can send your friends.

Common questions

Can we all share one island?

Yes. Add them as members of yours and you build together on the same island. They can also take their own and visit each other instead, which is the usual way a group plays it.

What stops a visitor breaking what I built?

Island protection, and it is on by default. A visitor cannot break or place blocks on your island unless you let them, and you can change that per island from the web page.

Is Skyblock the same as OneBlock?

No. Skyblock gives you a small island with a tree and a chest and leaves the rest to you. OneBlock gives you exactly one block that turns into something different every time you break it.

Can I start over without losing everything?

You can reset an island, and JetRift saves the world before it does anything destructive. Your three most recent saves are always there to restore from.
