Delegate one moderation permission without making an operator
Use a rank when somebody needs a particular responsibility without full operator powers. Begin with a single permission node and verify the allowed and refused actions. A readable prefix can explain the role later, but it does not itself grant command access.
Add Ranks to your world
- Open the plugin page and choose an existing world you own, or create a new world with the plugin selected.
- Check the included requirements. Each world supports up to eight plugins, including dependencies.
- Start a sleeping world, or use the dashboard restart option for a running world. Adding, removing and updating plugins takes effect when the world restarts; coordinate with anyone playing.
Create a narrowly named role
An operator can create a group and grant an exact permission. This example delegates Chat Basics moderation, not every command. Installing Ranks alone does not fill groups with powers. Avoid using a global wildcard just to make one command work; it can include rank administration and unrelated plugin controls.
/rank create helper
/rank addperm helper chat-basics:moderate
/rank listAssign a known player and check the result
Replace Alex with a player who has joined since Ranks was installed. Assignment uses the recorded player identity and can work after that player goes offline. Test from their non-operator account: operators are not restricted by rank denials and are therefore the wrong test for least-privilege behavior.
/rank set Alex helper
/rank info AlexAdd a label and review inheritance
Set a short prefix after the permission test succeeds. A group may inherit from another, but inheritance loops are refused. Remove a node when a responsibility ends rather than leaving old grants behind. Prefix chat is rewritten by the plugin, so check how it looks alongside any other chat-formatting plugin.
/rank setprefix helper &a[Helper]
/rank reloadCheck the result
- Confirm the assigned regular player can perform the delegated action and still cannot use an unrelated operator-only command.
- Restart normally and verify group assignment and prefix. Unknown player names should be refused until the player has joined.
Limits and compatibility
- Operators remain outside rank restrictions; a deny rule does not revoke operator authority.
- Prefixes are labels, not a general chat-layout system. Another plugin rewriting chat can affect which formatted message appears.
These instructions are for JetRift’s own Ranks plugin. JetRift does not install arbitrary Paper, Spigot, Forge or Fabric extensions. Commands use player names from your world; replace example names before running them. Operators can use the dashboard Console without the leading slash.
