JetRift

Keep friend-server chat usable with messages and mutes

JetRift setup guide · Updated · Plugin v0.1.0

Start with the tools players need every day: a direct message, a quick reply and a way to ignore somebody. Add moderation rules only after you know how they affect ordinary chat and private messages. Installing Chat Basics does not automatically populate a blocked-word list.

Add Chat Basics to your world

  1. Open the plugin page and choose an existing world you own, or create a new world with the plugin selected.
  2. Check the included requirements. Each world supports up to eight plugins, including dependencies.
  3. Start a sleeping world, or use the dashboard restart option for a running world. Adding, removing and updating plugins takes effect when the world restarts; coordinate with anyone playing.

Try messages and personal ignore controls

Ask two online players to test a short private message and reply. Replace Alex with the recipient. Ignore hides that player’s chat and messages for the person choosing it; it is not a server-wide mute. Operators cannot be ignored. Private messages are recorded in the server log, so explain that distinction to players.

/msg Alex Meet at spawn.
/r On my way.
/ignore Alex
/ignorelist

Use a timed moderation action

An operator can mute an online non-operator for a specified number of minutes. Check the mute list and test public chat plus private messaging as the muted player. Unmute can remove the restriction deliberately. Do not test only with an operator account, which has different protections and bypass permissions.

/mute Alex 5
/mutelist

Change text policies in the saved settings

Inspect status, then edit the private configuration if you want slow mode or custom join and leave text. Add entries to blocked_words.txt for a word list, then reload. Slow mode also covers private messages. A broken reload should keep the active settings rather than quietly applying half the intended policy.

Limits and compatibility

These instructions are for JetRift’s own Chat Basics plugin. JetRift does not install arbitrary Paper, Spigot, Forge or Fabric extensions. Commands use player names from your world; replace example names before running them. Operators can use the dashboard Console without the leading slash.
