Place a villager who explains and trades
An NPC can make a spawn area easier to understand without requiring players to read a long board. Start with one villager who explains a simple barter. Its offer exchanges ordinary items, so show players exactly what they give and receive before they try it.
Add NPCs and Merchants to your world
- Open the plugin page and choose an existing world you own, or create a new world with the plugin selected.
- Check the included requirements. Each world supports up to eight plugins, including dependencies.
- Start a sleeping world, or use the dashboard restart option for a running world. Adding, removing and updating plugins takes effect when the world restarts; coordinate with anyone playing.
JetRift includes Shop and Economy automatically. A required plugin cannot be removed while this plugin needs it.
Place and name the NPC in game
An operator stands where the villager should appear and creates a short identifier. Add dialogue that explains what the villager does and how to use the commands. The identifier is what players type; the visible name can be more friendly. Use list to confirm the definition exists.
/npc create trader Trader
/npc text trader Bring sixteen cobblestone for four oak logs.
/npc listConfigure and try a small barter
Set an input item and count followed by the output item and count. Players must be nearby and in Survival, with ordinary ingredients and room for the result. Named, enchanted or customized ingredients are preserved rather than consumed as interchangeable stock. Shop is required for shared inventory coordination, not because this offer costs coins.
/npc offer trader cobblestone 16 oak_log 4
/npc talk trader
/npc trade traderTune access and verify recovery
Inspect settings before changing limits. Keep trade distance small so commands still feel connected to the villager, and use a cooldown for repeated trades. If an interrupted trade reserves inventory, let its saved delivery recover; removing the NPC plugin while it owns that reservation will not safely finish it.
/npc settings
/npc settings trade_distance 4
/npc settings trade_cooldown_seconds 2Check the result
- Compare ingredient and output counts for one trade, then repeat with missing ingredients and a full inventory.
- Restart normally and confirm the NPC definition and offer remain, without creating a duplicate purchase.
Limits and compatibility
- This release uses stationary vanilla villagers, dialogue commands and ordinary item barter. It is not a scripted quest engine or arbitrary model editor.
- Trades require a nearby online player; they are not an offline marketplace.
These instructions are for JetRift’s own NPCs and Merchants plugin. JetRift does not install arbitrary Paper, Spigot, Forge or Fabric extensions. Commands use player names from your world; replace example names before running them. Operators can use the dashboard Console without the leading slash.
